Google AdWords Editor – Vista Error 2739 Fix

Everyone who uses Google AdWords for marketing will benefit from installing the Google AdWords Editor to manage your campaigns. I’ve been trying to get it installed for a couple of weeks on and off but have kept running into a 2739 error since I am running Windows Vista when using the installer. I tried the fix the Google had in their help section, which didn’t work for me. Next I emailed Google and waited. Well, after not hearing from them for awhile, I figured I’d try the fix myself.

Here is the fix that Google suggested that seems to fix a lot of peoples issues. I tried it first and it didn’t help me.

If you receive error 2739 when installing AdWords Editor on Windows Vista, you can complete the installation by following one of the sets of steps below.

If you know that you’re logged in as an administrator:

  1. Click the Start button > Run, then type ‘cmd’.
  2. Click OK.
  3. For Vista x86: In the command prompt, type ‘cd c:windowssystem32,’ then Enter.
For Vista x64: In the command prompt, type ‘cd c:windowsSysWOW64,’ then Enter.
  4. Type ‘regsvr32 jscript.dll’, then Enter.
  5. Type ‘regsvr32 vbscript.dll’, then Enter.
  6. Type ‘exit’, then Enter to close the command prompt.

If you’re not logged in as an administrator, or you’re not sure:

  1. Click the Start button > Programs or All Programs > Accessories.
  2. Right-click ‘Command Prompt.’ and choose ‘Run as administrator.’
  3. Click OK.
  4. Note that the command prompt that opens should say ‘Administrator’ in the title.
For Vista x86: Type ‘cd c:windowssystem32,’ then Enter.
For Vista x64: Type ‘cd c:windowsSysWOW64,’ then Enter.
  5. Type ‘regsvr32 jscript.dll’, then Enter.
  6. Type ‘regsvr32 vbscript.dll’, then Enter.
  7. Type ‘exit’, then Enter to close the command prompt.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you should be able to install AdWords Editor.

This can be found on Googles AdWord help section.

After searching around the net for about an hour this morning, I finally found a solution that worked for me. It was actually a solution that I found on Aaron Stebner’s blog. I’m not a super computer expert so I am not really sure what the problem was or how it fixed it, but I do know that after this fix I was able to install AdWords Editor.

  1. Click on the Start menu, choose Run, type cmd and click OK
  2. To unregister the VBScript engine, run this command: reg delete “HKCUSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}” /f
  3. To unregister the JScript engine, run this command: reg delete “HKCUSOFTWAREClassesCLSID{F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58}” /f

Hope this helps others who are in the same boat I was in. AdWords Editor is definitly worth installing.

UPDATE: This may not work for Vista 64-Bit. Tyler Cruz came up with a fix that worked for him that you should check out if this doesn’t work for you.
